Is there a relationship between App Store Optimization and Search Engine Optimization?

ASO and SEO? Or ASO vs SEO? Let’s find out...

Optimization of mobile apps to be on the first page in an app store’s search result is called App Store Optimization or ASO.

The better ranking, the more visibility. This increased visibility will turn in traffic going to your page.

App stores include Google Play Store and Apple App Store which have different algorithms.

ASO’s main factors are simple - App Name and Keywords. Since it’s just two, take the time to optimize them regularly.

Simple, right? But there are more factors on ASO.

First, the app description. Technically, app store algorithms disregard this but as a user myself, I read this. So, use this space to explain your app’s benefits and features. Remember using concise, detailed, and catchy descriptions because this part is shortened. And just a few users will click on that expand button.

Second, the app subtitle. This is also descriptive so write it wisely.

Lastly, metadata. Use your keywords here since this part will help you get discovered through search and related content.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO), on the other hand, is the optimization of websites to be on the first page of search engine results page.

Search engines include Google, Yahoo, and Bing.

Since there are a lot of materials for SEO, I won’t delve deep into it. We also have an SEO vlog here.

So, what is the real relationship between ASO and SEO?

Both are optimization techniques dealing with different platforms. However, there is no proven link between the two.

If you are an SEO practitioner, you can do ASO, too. Since there are similar practices like descriptive words aka keywords. Both should also be monitored and optimized regularly.
